Just 20 metres from where I stood to take this photo, 2 men were shot at in a drive by shooting incident in the early hours of Saturday morning. Both men suffered gunshot wounds to their legs.

Earlier today, an elderly woman and her son escaped injury in the Sydney suburb of Summer Hill, when her house was targeted in a drive by shooting.

I don't believe in capital punishment, but sometimes, just sometimes, I would like to see a law enacted that gives a victim of an unprovoked assault (or his or her family if the victim was killed), the right to spend one hour in a cell with the perpetrator (restrained, of course) and a range of weapons and implements of their choice. The victim would then be able to walk out a free person regardless of what they've chosen to do in that time.

I quickly think better of it, though.
